With everyone's time at a premium, salon events that multi-task are just the ticket. This week, the Eric Fisher Academy in Wichita, Kansas, is throwing a community-service event that promises to lure in prospective new clients and attract future students.
On Thursday, August 27, the academy is throwing a back-to-school 'Bling It On' party for teen-aged girls in the community. The event's overall goal is to educate young women on safety issues by featuring a guest speaker-C. Dean Hall, author of Psychos, Players, Punks and Pervs: The Ultimate Guy Detector.
While Hall promises to provide some critical information, it's the party's bling that will bring in the girls. Academy students will be strutting their new talents with the Cabaret Runway Show featuring hair and makeup trends, and attendees will experience the teen-targeted Dermalogica Clean Start skincare line. In addition, academy students will be offering a teen-spirited service, bling strings-sparkling strands that are slip-knotted onto individual hair strands. Intrigued? Check out this sample video.
"I stocked up on strings in all the local team colors, and we're promoting it as a back-to-school, show-your-spirit activity," says Cheryl Nelson, guest services coordinator. "We contacted about 50 local schools and sent flyers to their cheerleading and dance squad directors, and we've been hitting all the local gymnastics centers."
Nelson anticipates about 200 young girls this Thursday for what she hopes is a "fun night that helps them learn how to stay safe."
