ShearShare, an app-based global marketplace with listings in more than 300 cities and 11 countries, allows licensed beauty and barbering professionals to rent salon space on demand.
The average salon or barbershop operates at only 40 percent capacity on any given day, while 80 percent of licensed stylists drop out of the industry within five years due to a lack of resources which includes affordable salon or booth space to launch and grow their business.
The ShearShare marketplace was designed to bridge this gap to help individual beauty and grooming professionals thrive and keep salons and barbershops open and at capacity all year round.
“After 25 years in this industry, as the owner of an award-winning salon, the most common pain point for stylists at all levels is availability and affordability of professional space to work,” says Dr. Tye Caldwell, co-founder and CEO of ShearShare. “After testing the concept in our salon for eighteen months, we discovered that the ShearShare model was not only solving this problem but also having an immediate positive impact on both the salon host and stylist’s respective businesses.”
Seven months after ShearShare launched in September 2016, it is being employed in France, England, and Australia with many additional prospective salon hosts and beauty professionals submitting requests for ShearShare to launch in their city or country.
“We knew that salon inventory management was a huge issue on both sides of the chair, but we couldn’t have predicted how fast things would take off,” said Courtney Caldwell, co-founder and COO of ShearShare. “Now that we know the demand is there, our top priority is enhancing the ShearShare experience for our hosts and users by making the listing and booking process as seamless and efficient as possible.”
ShearShare is currently available for free in the App Store and Google Play in English. The app is compatible with the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and all Android phones. Devices must be running iOS 8.1 or later or Android 4.2 or later.
