The color area, with a bar and color tables, is designed to be a separate part of the salon. Library shelves and lights in the bar are used to orgnize the color tubes, while holes are cut into the counter surface allowing for easy access to the trash and recycling, which keeps the bar clean and organized.

The curtains have multiple duties at Grow. They help separate the retail, blowdry bar and reception area from the main salon, while helping with noise reduction and echoing due to the height of the two-story ceiling. They also make each area feel more intimate and friendly.

The mural was a favorite feature at Grow's former location so was lovingly recreated by a local artist. In the lounge, every guest receives a scalp massage and a weighted blanket.

Opening in September of 2020, Grow—A Shane Archer Concept in Knoxville, Tennessee, was forged from Owner Shane Archer’s world-class resume combined with his unique, fresh perspective on hair design.

Known for his enthusiasm and talent for hairstyling and his sense of humor, Archer has received the “Best Colorist” and “Best Stylist” awards in Cityview Magazine numerous years in a row. As a style ambassador for Barbizon Modeling and multiple acting schools across North America, Archer’s talents are regularly featured in print, television and film. Yet, Archer remains inspired by each and every guest who walks through Grow's doors, and he specializes in creating color, cuts and styling for any occasion.

When it came to the design for the new space, Archer wanted to give Knoxville a beauty experience they hadn’t seen before. He envisioned a space that welcomed guests as if they were invited into one's home--an aesthetically pleasing home. The salon space features two floors with 12 styling stations downstairs and six on a mezzanine level. The blowdry bar is placed behind large velvet draperies, which create a sense of comfort and intimacy.

Archer’s keen sense of humor is evident with the Dolly Parton mural in the Lather Lounger. In character as Truvy the hairdresser in Steel Magnolias, the mural quotes, “I don’t trust anyone that does their own hair. I don’t think it’s normal.” The feature was a favorite at Grow's former location, so a local artist was called upon to lovingly recreate it.

Grow also is a designated L’ANZA HEALING CENTER, a branded, dedicated, loyal, focused and elite program that offers salons a true partnership through authentic, fast and flexible support which provides a platform to grow. The program offers owners methods to improve their overall business and strategies for enhancing the client experience, which in turn increase retention and revenue.

Archer personally selects the best local stylists to be a part of the Grow family. Upon opening his salon, he personally trained and fostered the education of his team to execute a specific standard and technique.
