Keya Neal, the creator of cosmetology career enhancement organization Kolour Kulture, is launching the RepHAIRations event on Monday, August 31 from 10am-7pm EST. In partnership with industry sponsors, this digital education event is intended to repair a damaged industry through education for all hairdressers about all hair textures. This event will address the fact that hair stylists have learned to cut, style and color textured hair through trial and error, rather than in school. RepHAIRations will provide the advanced, textured hair coloring education that is typically hard to find.
Kolour Kulture was an important catalyst for the Texture vs. Race movement, which was designed to empower industry hair professionals with confidence, knowledge, and skill sets to overcome fears related to servicing clients with hair textures different from their own. With RepHAIRations, a collective educational Facebook Live broadcast, Neal and partnering brands will deliver individual educational segments to answer viewer questions while conducting live demonstration. Neal wants to continue to push the message that hair texture is a fabric not a race.

“It is time for all of us to do what we can to repair our industry and serve reparations to the community that has been under-served and underrepresented,” says Neal. "We want to bring attention to the silent segregation that plagues our salons. The purpose of this event is to bring healing and repair to a damaged industry. We at Texture vs Race are on a mission to elevate the industry through education for all hairdressers about all textures.

"While there is no shortage of 'straight hair education,' there is a shortage of this education reaching the black community," Neal continues. "Our intention is to educate the Black/Brown community at the same rate that we are educating the white market. We must level the playing field for all stylists. Cross pollination of education is required to repair this broken system. We all must continue to evolve, as our industry is forever changed. Through our current racial uprising, we have unearthed the divide that exists in the beauty industry and it is time to close this gap. It is time to repair and rebuild--better, stronger and more united.
repHAIRations is a full day of online education and a forum for open dialogue about multi-cultural styling. This will include LIVE Look, Learn, & Listen education showcasing multi-ethnic artists, educators, session stylists, and influencers.
For each ticket purchased, a free ticket will be given to a Black, Indigenous Person of Color (BIPOC). The profit from the ticket sales will be donated to organizations who support the advancement of Black people-Until Freedom, Catrice Jackson, and our Black Student Relief Fund.
