Good hair starts at the scalp. But most salons aren’t offering services or products that address scalp health. As a result, guests aren’t getting optimal results, stylists are missing out on service opportunities and salon owners have a gap in their retail inventory.
Relish, a new product line from the founders of trusted private label company Signature Formulations, has everything salons need to deliver an effective head spa service and offer guests a robust at-home scalp care line.
A head spa service looks different in every salon. Some salons use a special camera to look at the scalp and identify issues, some salons have shampoo chairs that allow guests to fully lay down as they experience their treatment, and some salons conduct the service in a separate treatment room.
The timing of a head spa service is unique to every salon as well. Kim McQuillan, owner of Salon Evolve in Royersford, Pennsylvania, says her salon offers 10-minute, 15-minute, and 60-minute options.
“We book more of the 10- and 30-minute services, because we can sell them as add-ons,” she says. “We put Relish Purifier on while the client is in the chair and let it sit for five minutes. Then we go back to the shampoo area where we use Relish’s Tea Tree and Mint shampoo for cleansing and the Prickly Pear and Marula Oil to massage the guest’s neck and shoulders.

McQuillan says the head spa service with Relish products has created another talking point in the salon.
“We have a lot of clients ask about how to treat their thinning hair,” she says. “Now we have an answer and different treatments to address different issues.”
McQuillan has also invested in a special camera to take photos of the scalp and another machine to detect scalp issues.
“Using the camera allows clients to see the clogged pores on their scalp, which helps market the service,” she says. “It’s also a relaxing massage, and an add-on treatment opportunity for stylists.”
Adding on the head spa service is particularly helpful to male clients with thinning hair, and a great opportunity to boost service price per ticket for the stylists who have a primarily male clientele.
“Head spa treatments and scalp therapy products are also ideal for our extension clients,” says McQuillan. “It helps keep their scalp clean between extension services.”
Scalp care isn’t just a salon service. Relish also has a home-care line for salons to retail to clients. Developed by two seasoned professional cosmetic chemists formerly with Kenra Professional, Paul Browning and Irma Jobst, Relish’s professional and retail products were formulated to support scalp balance and strengthen hair at its foundation, with each product working together as part of a refined system to deliver consistent results.

Danielle Mullins, owner of Balayage Boutique in Naples, Florida, says, “I’m loving Relish–my clients’ results have been wonderful. The scalp feels amazing—so refreshed and nourished—and the overall experience truly feels like a spa treatment.”
Mullins says her salon guests enjoy the scent of Relish products and how their hair and scalp feel post-service.
“It’s luxurious, soothing, and leaves them feeling pampered and relaxed, which is exactly what I look for in a high-quality product,” she says.

This pre-cleanse product gently removes product buildup, oil, and impurities while restoring scalp balance to reset the scalp’s natural pH, leaving it clear and ready to absorb nourishment. Unlike other manual scrubs, Relish liquid fruit acid exfoliant doesn't tangle the hair or disturb extensions or dreads.

A balancing scalp tonic that soothes and hydrates. Wild hazel helps refine pores and calm irritation, with jojoba oil and sunflower oil mimicking the scalp’s natural sebum to lock in lightweight moisture.

Energize and refresh the scalp with this deeply cleansing shampoo. Tea tree oil purifies and cools, peppermint boosts circulation, and aloe soothes and softens.

Rebuild broken bonds and strengthen hair from within with this intensive restorative treatment. Powered by pea protein and cysteine, this rich mask repairs structural damage, restores elasticity and enhances shine.

Use this lightweight, multi-purpose oil on body, hair and scalp. Its antioxidant and emollient-rich formula is non-sticky and works for head spa rituals or everyday care.
