Healthy Hairdresser’s 2017-2018 Be-Cause You Care program continues this month with a spotlight on City of Hope (COH), championed by Healthy Hairdresser sponsor CosmoProf. City of Hope is a medical facility dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people with cancer, diabetes and other serious illnesses.

At the July 8 Las Vegas gala during Cosmoprof North America, City of Hope’s National Professional Salon Industry Group, which has been an important contributor to COH, will present the 2017 Spirit of Life Award to Mark Spinks, president of CosmoProf, Armstrong McCall, Sally Beauty Holdings. Spinks has made medical research and innovation his major focus.

“It is an honor to be able to pull the beauty industry together to raise funds for such a worthy organization,” Spinks says. “Every family has been affected by cancer in some way. Our team had a chance to visit the City of Hope campus earlier this year, and it was amazing to see the work they’re doing to extend lives and give people hope. It was great to meet the doctors and researchers conducting leading-edge research.”

Salon owner and CosmoProf Brand Ambassador Larisa Love also was in the group visiting the COH campus.

“Taking the City of Hope tour opened up my eyes to becoming more involved and help out in anyway possible,” Love says. “With the social media platform that I have, I can bring more awareness to this cause. Any thing to help can make a difference, so let’s bring awareness and find a cure for cancer.”

The Invisible Work of a Rebrand

In this rare essay, the president of a haircare brand takes us behind-the-scenes into a world we never see when we pick up a product off the shelves--the arduous, thought-probing, second-guessing journey of rebranding a legacy product line. Not only is her reflection fascinating, but it is also incredibly useful for any salon owner or manufacturer contemplating their own brand.
