The Green Beauty Community Foundation convenes beauty brands, salon-industry leaders, educators, and sustainability organizations for a collaborative professional beauty gathering on September 23rd in New York.
The professional beauty industry will come together during Climate Week NYC for a collaborative event focused on what it will take to make sustainability more practical, accessible and actionable across salons and the professionals who work in them.
Organized by the Green Beauty Community Foundation (GBCF) and hosted at amika's New York office at 25 Kent in Brooklyn, the September 23 gathering will bring together Official Event Partners amika, Green Circle Salons, Innersense Organic Beauty, John Paul Mitchell Systems, Pivot Point, Sustain Beauty Co. and Ulta Beauty for technical education, hands-on sustainability activations and an industry conversation centered on collective action.
The event is part of GBCF's 2026 Green Salon Impact Tour, a national initiative connecting technical beauty education with practical sustainability programming.
"Individual companies throughout beauty have been doing meaningful sustainability work for years," said Daniel Johnson, Founder and Executive Director of the Green Beauty Community Foundation. "What has been missing is a place where those efforts can come together around the professionals actually working behind the chair. Climate Week gives us an opportunity to bring that conversation into a much larger environmental forum."
The program is designed specifically around the professional salon ecosystem, with each partner contributing a distinct piece of the experience.
Event Partner Participation
amika: Hosting the event at its 25 Kent office and providing venue, production and logistics support, while participating in the shared sustainability experience around responsible sourcing and ingredients.
Green Circle Salons: Bringing expertise in salon waste recovery, circularity and waste diversion through hands-on education within the shared sustainability activation.
Innersense Organic Beauty: Providing technical education led by Breanna Bell through “Conscious Color: The Creativity and Impact of Color Purity,” connecting professional color performance with sustainability.
John Paul Mitchell Systems: Providing technical education led by Colin Caruso and DJ Muldoon through “Clean Lines, Clear Growth,” connecting cutting technique, smarter systems and waste reduction.
Pivot Point: Supporting the technical education with professional mannequins and contributing to the planned post-event insights and reporting work.
Sustain Beauty Co.: Bringing salon-operations solutions into the shared sustainability activation, including Ecoheads water-saving technology and Scrummi compostable towels.
Ulta Beauty: Supporting the event as an Official Event Partner and helping extend the conversation across the professional salon and retail ecosystem.
Attendees will participate in technical education and interactive experiences exploring topics including responsible sourcing and ingredients, waste recovery and circularity, water conservation, sustainable salon operations, professional product use and the everyday decisions that influence a salon's environmental footprint.
The afternoon will culminate in a moderated discussion with leaders from across professional beauty examining both the progress the industry is making and the obstacles that continue to slow wider adoption of sustainable practices.
At the center of the event is a simple question:
"Who are you sustainable for?"
Throughout the experience, beauty professionals will be invited to connect sustainability to the people and communities that matter to them while also sharing their perspectives on the challenges they encounter when attempting to make more sustainable choices.
The collaborative format is intended to bring those perspectives together in one place, so the event reflects the realities of stylists, salon owners, educators, brands, retailers and sustainability organizations rather than any single company's point of view.
GBCF also plans to gather attendee perspectives on sustainability priorities, terminology, barriers to change and the resources beauty professionals need. Those findings are expected to help inform post-event education and future industry programming.
The gathering reflects a larger goal for the Green Beauty Community Foundation: creating a neutral space where organizations that may compete commercially can collaborate on environmental challenges that no single company can address alone.
The goal is not to present professional beauty as having solved sustainability, but to create a forum where participating organizations and beauty professionals can share what is working, identify what is still difficult and move the industry forward together.
The event will conclude with networking and a rooftop reception overlooking New York City.
