When Ruth Roche, Global Artistic Ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care wants to make a creative vision a reality, she turns to wigs.
"I always have some in my bag, and quite frankly, the way they morph from show to show happens to inspire me as well. I’ve been known to pull a wig out of my bag, scrunch and shape it, and pop it on a model. I also tend to chop wigs apart and then pin onto the head to create a more abstract shape. Sure, you can also cut them like you would a human’s hair, but where is the fun in that?”
Why does she turn to wigs? “Achieving the look you want at a shoot has so many variables, and getting a model to cut her hair is probably one of the biggest. Even if the model agrees, their agent won’t due to marketability - models are just more versatile with longer hair."
Roche likes working with wigs, but particularly because "You can use the same model for more than one look and create completely different images by using different hair pieces," she says.
