Beauty to the Rescue
Mane Attraction Salon
Phoenix, Arizona
Owned by: Kendall Ong and Beatte Assmuth-Ong

For the past 13 years, the team at Mane Attraction has partnered with a local nonprofit organization RESCUE for its annual Beauty to the Rescue fundraiser, which gives unwanted dogs and cats in county pounds a second chance at life by preventing euthanasia.

For the event, the whole team donates their services on the first Sunday in March, offering haircuts, treatments, blowouts, and makeup applications. In addition, the Ongs block off the parking area in front of their salon and bring in a mobile dog groomer, a pet psychic, an ordained minister who gives animal blessings, and a therapist who performs Reiki treatments on the dogs. A stage hosted bands and informative speakers while local restaurants set up food booths, with all vendors donating to the cause. To raise additional funds, Mane Attraction holds a silent auction.

“Leading up to the event, we have signage in the salon and our publicist distributes press releases, and we’re featured in all the online and printed event calendars,” says Assmuth-Ong. “We get several write-ups each year, and many of the local TV stations have sent crews to cover the event. It’s our biggest new client driver every year, and to date we’re raised more than $200,000 for RESCUE.”
