SalonJobs, a beauty-industry-specific dedicated hiring platform, has launched the SalonJobs Resume Builder, a free, guided tool that walks stylists through building a structured, professional resume tailored to salon hiring standards and expectations.

The tool is available now to all stylists on the SalonJobs platform and is distinct from the standard SalonJobs profile - it generates a standalone, downloadable resume document that candidates can submit directly to salon owners or use across multiple channels.

Addressing a Known Gap

For many cosmetology graduates, the transition from education to employment is complicated by a challenge that has little to do with technical ability: the blank resume. Beauty school curriculum prepares students to work behind the chair, not to articulate that work on paper. The result is a mismatch that costs both candidates and salon owners time.

The SalonJobs Resume Builder was developed in direct response to this friction. Rather than presenting users with a blank form, the tool uses guided prompts to draw out relevant experience, including work performed during cosmetology training, techniques practiced, and client interactions. Then, it organizes that information into a clean, industry-appropriate format.

The completed resume includes sections for contact information, a professional summary, work experience, education, skills, professional development, and awards. Stylists may also upload a professional photo, which is standard practice in many salon hiring contexts. Portfolio uploads are not included; the tool is designed as an information-first document.

What This Means for Salon Owners

For the salon owners and operators who rely on SalonJobs to find qualified candidates, the Resume Builder offers a practical benefit: a more uniform, readable set of applications. When candidates come in through a structured process, owners spend less time deciphering inconsistent formats and more time evaluating actual fit.

The tool also encourages candidates to address culture and growth alignment as part of their self-presentation, factors that are often missing from general-purpose resumes but are central to how salons evaluate long-term hires.

"The beauty industry has a hiring problem that doesn't get talked about enough," says Lucy Pless, founder of SalonJobs. "Talented stylists lose opportunities because no one taught them how to present themselves on paper, and salon owners make rushed decisions because the resumes they receive don't give them what they actually need to know. The Resume Builder exists to close that gap. It's a practical tool, and it's free, because access shouldn't be a barrier to а professional start."

Part of a Broader Shift

The launch of the Resume Builder reflects a wider effort within SalonJobs to move the beauty industry toward more deliberate, transparent hiring practices. Generic job boards were not built with salon culture in mind because they prioritize volume over alignment and offer little structure for early-career candidates.

SalonJobs was built specifically to address these limitations: matching stylists and salons based on culture fit, growth expectations, and professional values rather than keywords alone. The Resume Builder extends that philosophy into the first step of the hiring process - the resume itself.

Unlike platform profiles, which are designed for discovery within SalonJobs, the Resume Builder produces a portable document. Stylists who are applying to salons that are not yet on the platform, submitting physical applications, or sharing credentials through email or social media can use their SalonJobs resume in any context.

Availability

The SalonJobs Resume Builder is available now at no cost to all registered stylists on the platform. Cosmetology students and recent graduates can access the tool by creating a free SalonJobs account. Salon owners interested in learning more about the platform and its hiring tools can visit SalonJobs.com.
