In March 2013, Amanda Hume and her husband purchased the building that would become Vert Beauty. The property was perfect for what they had planned. There was a modern building with a courtyard in the back, perfect for hosting parties and master classes, and a carriage house from the early 1900s that would make the ideal office space for their new brand’s headquarters.

The Humes hired a local design and architecture firm that same month to get started on transforming the space into the salon they envisioned. The modern building originally had three levels, which they decided to turn into two. This required filling the ground level with four feet of gravel and cement, then restructuring what had been the third level, but now became the second. As so often happens with major remodels, the process took longer than expected, but the Humes kept the design process going throughout. They decided on the overall look of the salon (zen, country garden) and chose design elements like cabinets, wood and paint colors. They had a designer begin work on a custom-made wood table and took a trip to New York City, during which they found an antique table and a couple unique, antique chandeliers that became focal points of the salon’s design.

Of course there were some bumps along the way, but in the end the design came together seamlessly and Vert Beauty opened on December 1, 2013. Visitors often compliment the unique elements of the salon, like the tile, plant wall, wood features and wallpapered bathroom. The lush, garden décor mimics the priorities of the salon: organic products and services to emphasize natural beauty.

“It’s like a breath of fresh air when you walk in,” says Hume. “It smells gorgeous and is truly a beautiful space.”
