The Coopers chose to preserve some of the salon's history by refinishing the existing floors and brightened up the space with Jonathan Adler chandeliers and pendant task lighting. Mick Jagger's Queen of Spain wallpaper on the back wall invites clients to explore the new design.

When Sarah and Bobby Cooper decided to renovate their nine-year old salon in Indianapolis, Indiana, it wasn’t because their existing décor had gone stale. Instead, the partners who co-own Bobby Cooper Salon wanted to invigorate their space with Art Deco influences that reflected their personal history in order to create a bright, luxurious space for clients who live in a city that boasts the most gray days in the country.

The duo started by sketching their vision late at night using their children’s crayons. “We then decided that anything we decided to integrate into the slightly eclectic design had to meet the criteria of opulent, sharp and sophisticated, but always with an edge,” says Sarah. “We drew design inspiration from our wedding in Rome several years ago and from our travels to places like Miami’s Wynwood Art District.”

As a result, the salon boasts a juxtaposition of sleek, modern furniture with reclaimed wood and natural accents for a balanced design. In the reception, a living moss walls complements sleek shelving designed by Eurisko to make the salon’s V76 and Oribe products dazzle like in a high-end boutique. And, in the shampoo area the black and gold wallpaper by Italian designer Fornacetti is accentuated by a chair rail created from reclaimed wood.

Throughout the space, jolts of Deco accents electrify the space. Black, white and gray tiles comprised of different textures in reception area increase client safety in bad weather. Mick Jagger’s Queen of Spain wallpaper behind round mirrors at the blowout bar beckon clients to explore the entire salon.
