Of course you want to rip out everything and start from new. We all want to have the best of everything when we own a business. The fact is you just might not be able to afford it.

There is one thing that can instantly change the look and appearance of your salon immediately once it is done: painting. If you want a quick change without spending a lot of money, consider changing the colors with a fresh coat of paint. Changing the color will give you and your customers the greatest sense of immediate change and satisfaction. There are several things you can do to increase the beauty of a room and at the same time decrease the effort and cost involved with painting:

  • Make sure you have enough drop cloths to cover everything

  • Tape off areas that you do not want paint on (This takes a while to do but cleanup of unwanted paint takes hours)

  • Buy enough paint (don’t want to run out in the middle of the project)

  • Make sure you buy paint you can wipe and clean (Semi-gloss, egg shell finish)

  • Paint the ceilings first then the walls

  • Don’t buy cheap brushes and rollers

  • Use a top grade paint

If painting is not your thing and you just don’t have the mind set or time to do the work, if you’ve decided to hire a paint contractor to paint your business, you can search on Google and or Yahoo for painters in your area. Listed below are the two most popular sites to find painters in your area:

How Painters Determine What They Charge

Commercial painting contractors use several aspects to determine the price they will charge you for your project. The formula they use is based on a number of different things they figure in their quote. The cheapest price you will get is on an empty space that is new construction the most expensive is on an older building and or restoration project. These factors listed below will help you understand how they determine your quote:

  • How much salon furniture do they have to move

  • Do they have to work at night to work around your schedule

  • How many windows and doors do they have to paint

  • How high are the ceilings? The higher the ceilings expect to pay more They will need ladders and scaffolding

  • Do you need a primer to cover old paint and dirt

  • What type of repairs do they have to make to your walls

  • Trim (Woodworking is measured by the linier foot to paint)

  • Size of your space determines the time and material to do so
