Ah, the age-old salon saga—Boomers, Millennials and Gen Z walk into a breakroom... and nobody agrees on the music, the dress code, or whether you really need to be at work 15 minutes early.

Managing a multigenerational team is a bit like balancing different hair textures—you need the right tools, a bit of finesse and a whole lot of understanding. The key? Meet them where they are, not where you wish they'd be.

Your seasoned pros bring loyalty, client relationships and tried-and-true techniques. They've seen trends come and go (and come back again). Your Gen Z team? They're digital natives, fast learners and have a pulse on what's next before it hits Instagram.

The magic happens when you bridge the gap instead of choosing sides. Pair newer stylists with experienced ones for mentorship (bonus: it goes both ways—think TikTok tips for balayage brilliance). Create open conversations around expectations and work styles, and avoid blanket policies that don't work for everyone.

Also, lead with flexibility and clarity. Gen Z thrives on purpose and feedback (more than just the "good job" kind). Your veterans? They likely appreciate structure and autonomy. You don't need to be everything to everyone—but you do need to listen, adapt, and build a culture where all generations feel valued.

So, no, you can't fix a generation gap overnight—but with a little humor, a lot of empathy, and a clear plan you can turn that gap into your greatest strength. After all, it's diversity of experience that gives your salon its edge—and keeps clients coming back for more.
