The open color bar beckons clients to be part of the color-mixing process. “The scientific process of color mixing adds a level of professionalism to the service and the openness of the process makes trying a color service more inviting,” says Todd. “While the stainless steel counters were not the most cost-effective option, they were the wisest—the color just wipes right off it.”

“There’s not a lot of modern design in Bakersfield, and we’ve had an overwhelming positive reaction to the uniqueness of our salon,” says Todd. “The brighter colors brings up people’s level of excitement and enthusiasm, and you can feel that energy in the salon.”

Todd commissioned a local artist, Johnny Ramos from Bossanova Studio, to design original artwork that would enhance the color scheme and add even more energy to the simplistic design. “To create his works, he gets up on a ladder and drops paint from different levels, creating extremely abstract pieces.
