NAHA 2018 Hairstylist of the Year and Great Lengths USA Executive Artistic Director Danielle Keasling kicked off a recent GL Elevate event in Chicago with GL Tapes and Tapes Plus tape-in extension training, which included details on color placement techniques for attachment, servicing thin-haired clients, and instruction on extension cutting, blending and styling. MODERN asked her five need-to-know tips when it comes to Great Lengths extensions.

What different ways can extensions be used?
DANIELLE KEASLING: Everyone knows tape-in extensions can be used to add length and volume, but we can also use them for chemical-free color placement and giving our thin-haired clients more self confidence.

What is the biggest mistake people make when using extensions?
DK: Putting too much or too little hair in the extension itself. You have to match the density hair; remember, it's a hair extension--an extension of the hair.

How can existing clients be turned into extension clients as well?
DK: You have extension clientele already sitting in your salon--they are your current clients. You just need to educate them and give them the tools to make the decision to wear extensions.

What type of tape-in options does Great Lengths offer?
DK: We offer two different types of tapes--Tapes and Tapes Plus. Tapes plus are almost like a seamless, injected band of hair, so you can't actually see the tape. GL Tapes and GL Tapes Plus can be used together. GL Tapes Plus are most effective when applied around more visible areas, such as the face crown and parting areas.

Why do you love Great Lengths?
DK: Great Lengths is ethical; everything they represent I can stand behind. They are the luxury brand of extensions.
