WOD for Water
The Black Cat Salon & Spa
Kailua, Hawaii
Owned by: Katy Gassaway and Jentry Petzold

The owners of The Black Cat took Aveda’s annual fund-raiser Walk for Water to the level, by making it WOD for Water. (WOD is Workout of the Day in CrossFit lingo.)

Partnering with CorssFit Kailua, the salon raised money in three ways: 1) workout buy in, where about 70 people donated $10 to participate in the event’s Workout; 2) T-shirt and tank top sales; and 3) a huge back sale. The event raised $1,375 for Surfrider Hawaii, and Gassaway says the ROI was huge, “We almost tripled our investment, had a ton of fun, created massive community goodwill, gained new clients, generated great buzz, and we still see people walking around town proudly wearing their WOD for Water shirts.”
