This October, we are committed to celebrating the powerful and inspiring women in the professional beauty industry in the pages and on the websites of both SALON TODAY and MODERN SALON. Recently, I learned the story of Angela and Amber Cope, twin sisters who work as stylists at the La Chique Salon, Spa and Boutique in Cornelius, North Carolina, and the timing couldn’t be better to share their story.
While the Cope girls love all things about beauty and fashion, their styling careers support them as they pursue another dream—to race in NASCAR.
Last May the Copes, age 28, made history as the first pair of twins to ever race in a NASCAR Nationwide Series. Nieces of Daytona 500 winner, Derrike Cope, the twins are third-generation drivers who were racing late-model cars before they had their driver’s licenses. They are well on their way to achieving their goal as the best female drivers in NASCAR, but their dream was missing something—a sponsor.
The Copes were lacking a sponsor for their next race at Kansas Speedway, and if they don’t race in Kansas City, they can’t race in Charlotte due to NASCAR’s approval process—a severe setback.
When John Harms, founder of Millennium Software, heard about the Copes and their need for a sponsor, he jumped at the opportunity. The ability to two beauty professionals achieve a unique dream encompasses his mission for Millennium and its Be-Cause initiative.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to support Angela and Amber Cope as they race towards their dreams in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Not only are they professional race car drivers, but they are beauty industry professionals who have used Millennium for many years,” he says. On Monday, October 3, Millennium became Angela and Amber Cope’s official sponsor for at least their next two races, allowing them the opportunity to compete and win. If they are successful in the next four races—Kansas City, Charlotte, Miami and Phoenix, then the twins have a great shot at racing at Daytona next year.
Join us in rooting for the Cope twins and their Millennium car #23 on October 8, 2011. Qualifying will be shown on ESPN2 at 10 a.m. EST, and the race will be shown on ESPN2 at 3 p.m. EST.
Millennium’s Be-Cause is a movement to unite beauty professionals everywhere that are more than their salons and their communities. Be-Cause honorees include Charles Penzone, John Paul Dejoria, Ted Gibson, Rita Hazan, Joel Warren, Edward Tricomi and more.
