On Sunday, April 10, top salons throughout the United States will participate in the HAIRraising Cut-a-thon, a massive, one-day fundraising event benefiting Boston Children's Hospital’s Heart Center.

Founded in 2010 by longtime business partners John Frieda and Gail Federici, HAIRraising brings together the salon and hair communities to help support the life-saving care and breakthrough treatments at Boston Children’s Hospital. Boston Children’s Hospital’s Heart Center has been named #1 in Cardiology and Heart Surgery every year that U.S. News & World Report has ranked the nation's top pediatric hospitals by specialty. Despite treating the most serious congenital heart conditions, Boston Children's Hospital Heart Center has some of the best success rates in the world.

Frieda and Federici targeted the salon and hair care world not only because of their extensive experience in the industry, but also because of the giving, generous nature of this community.

"We've had so much support from some of the biggest names in the business and we're consistently overwhelmed and amazed by the level of commitment this effort receives from salon owners and stylists," says Frieda. "It's a special community, coming together for a special cause, and for that we are very grateful."

"Support for Boston Children’s Hospital is critical," says Federici. "We need everyone to understand the huge global impact that this hospital has, not only for children, but for adults as well – and that just by participating in this one day event, we can help save countless lives."

Salons can join HAIRraising 2016 by registering at www.hairraising.org.  Once registered, you’ll receive a HAIRraising kit that includes fundraising ideas, a press release, promotional materials and hospital information that will help you market your event.

The Invisible Work of a Rebrand

In this rare essay, the president of a haircare brand takes us behind-the-scenes into a world we never see when we pick up a product off the shelves--the arduous, thought-probing, second-guessing journey of rebranding a legacy product line. Not only is her reflection fascinating, but it is also incredibly useful for any salon owner or manufacturer contemplating their own brand.
