New research by StorageCafe.com ranks the states with the longest married couples.

Valentine's Day is always the annual celebration of romance, but what's the secret to a long and happy marriage? Apparently, the state you live in plays a role. 

The research team from StorageCafe.com recently analyzed key metrics including average marriage duration, percentage of married population and marriage and divorce rates, alongside economic factors like household income and housing affordability to identify which states provide the strongest foundation for lasting relationships.

Here's a quick look at the states that ranked in the top 10:

1. New Hampshire: Median duration of marriages: 22.6 years; Share of married people: 52%

2. Vermont: Median duration of marriages: 23.1 years; Share of married people: 50.6%

3. Maine: Median duration of marriages: 22.4 years; Share of married people: 52.3%

4. Iowa: Median duration of marriages: 21.3 years; Share of married people: 52.6%

5. South Dakota: Median duration of marriages: 20.9 years; Share of married people: 52.1%

6. Wisconsin: Median duration of marriages: 22.7 years; Share of married people 50%

7. Nebraska: Median duration of marriages: 20.8 years; Share of married people: 53.5%

8. Minnesota: Median duration of marriages: 21.3 years; Share of married people: 51.8%

9. Pennsylvania: Median duration of marriages: 22 years; Share of married people: 49.5%

It's interesting to note that 9 of the 10 experience cold winters. Maybe there's something to that snuggling for warmth factor!
