Founded by Hollywood stylist Michael John Derricott, Makeovers That Matter provides economically disadvantaged women—particularly female veterans and the wives and widows of those who have served—with hair, make-up and fashion styling, counseling and training, giving them greater confidence and helping them put their best foot forward with the ultimate goal of getting not just a job but a career. Makeover recipients are invited to participate in a seven-week holistic course that counsels the body, mind and spirit during their job search, then encourages them to pay it forward by volunteering at their own favorite charity. While Makeovers That Matter is currently centered in the Los Angeles area, it has plans to grow nationally. Salons and stylists interested in participating should email Derricott at mj@makeoversthatmatter.org.
