On February 9, the nominees for the 2020 Oscars will go head to head, with nine pictures battling it out for best picture: Ford V Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood and Parasite.

Of course, we’ll be paying close attention to the contest for Makeup and Hairstyling, cheering on all the nominees, including Kazu Hiro, Anne Morgan and Vivian Baker for Bombshell; Nicki Lederman and Kay Georgiou for Joker; Jeremy Woodhead for Judy; Paul Gooch, Arjen Tuiten and David White for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil; and Naomi Donne,Tristan Versluis and Rebecca Cole for 1917.

But the Oscar nomination we’ll be cheering loudest for is one that may not have caught your notice. Hair Love is an Oscar-nominated animated short film by Matthew Cherry. It’s a heartfelt story of an African American father learning to do his daughter’s hair for the first time. This is one that’s sure to tug at your heart strings.
