As part of Salon Today’s annual Technology issue, we tap industry leaders for insight into how new systems are changing the ways in which the business of beauty is conducted. With more and more people depending on mobile devices in their personal and professional lives, we asked the pros how smart phones and tablets are shaping either salon and spa management practices or the client experience.

“Smart phones are a great way to interact with your clients. Social media is part of everyday life and most people are checking Facebook and Twitter on their hand-helds on a regular basis. Posting updates or discounts from your salon pages is a great way to stay in front of your customers as is texting clients with appointment reminders. Mobile devices are great for catching up on product education. At Nufree finipil, we have a YouTube channel with hair removal training videos. We also have a salon finder and QR codes in our national print advertising that lets clients find a salon quickly on their phone. Salons utilizing this technology are going to stay one step ahead.”

The Invisible Work of a Rebrand

In this rare essay, the president of a haircare brand takes us behind-the-scenes into a world we never see when we pick up a product off the shelves--the arduous, thought-probing, second-guessing journey of rebranding a legacy product line. Not only is her reflection fascinating, but it is also incredibly useful for any salon owner or manufacturer contemplating their own brand.
