Los Angeles welcomes a new salon concept: Base Color Bar is a high-end salon exclusively offering base color for men and women. Clients can expect to be in and out of the salon in less than 60 minutes and can count on a price point ranging from $40-60.

Base Color Bar uses products by L’Oreal and offers treatments including ammonia-free base color, men’s color rinse, women’s base color, gloss/toner and power shot treatment. From root touch-ups to ombre bases, Base Color Bar can treat all hair types, textures and tones. Clients never go home with wet hair. As a perk, they have the option of a blowout for an additional fee.

Base Color Bar was founded by Frederic Fekkai-trained Colorist and Stylist Haleh Lekkos, who came up with the concept of the salon. She noticed the growing trend of single-treatment salons, like blowdry bars, and realized that nothing like this existed when it came to color. Recognizing the opportunity to offer a one-stop, affordable option for base color, Lekkos decided it was time to open a color bar.

“Women on the Westside are used to looking their best and that is why I specifically chose Brentwood,” said Haleh Lekkos. “Coming from Frederic Fekkai, I am used to working with demanding clients and I know they expect the best in hair treatments. Women who have high maintenance hair still resent paying hundreds of dollars at the salon every three weeks. This is why I decided to open Base Color Bar and give women and men an affordable, easy alternative to traditional salon color treatments.”

The Invisible Work of a Rebrand

In this rare essay, the president of a haircare brand takes us behind-the-scenes into a world we never see when we pick up a product off the shelves--the arduous, thought-probing, second-guessing journey of rebranding a legacy product line. Not only is her reflection fascinating, but it is also incredibly useful for any salon owner or manufacturer contemplating their own brand.
