American Crew All-Star Challenge, a global competition to find the best men’s hair stylist in the world, wants you! Here's how to compete (and entries due by Sept. 30):

First, you’ll compete in the U.S. competition. Bring together the cut, the model and the photographer with your favorite American Crew products to create your interpretation of the “American Crew Man.” Once you have every hair exactly where you want it, snap two black-and-white photos of your look—one head-on and one profile shot. Make sure you follow all of the entry requirements at americancrew.com/allstarchallenge, and submit your entry before September 30. Everyone who enters will receive a free entry ticket to American Crew’s Opening Night, the stylist party of the year, in Denver on November 3.

“We want the best stylist on the planet—one with a truly unique, artistic vision; one who understands what it takes to create a masculine, modern edge; and one who captures their masterpiece with professional-level art direction and photography,” explains Craig Hanson, American Crew’s creative director.

The top three finalists will win exciting prizes, including airfare and accommodations for them and a guest to “Opening Night,” American Crew’s gala celebration of men’s hairstyling in Denver on November 3; a complete set of American Crew tools, a finalist plaque and the opportunity for press interviews. Plus, the winner will take home $5,000, and the second and third place winners take home $2,000 each. The winner’s work will be featured in a 2014 American Crew trade advertisement, and the winner will have the opportunity to be selected as one of the 15 finalists to represent his/her country at the American Crew Global All-Star Challenge.

Each country will submit its representative to the global judging panel, who will pick the top 15 finalists to compete in the global competition in April 2014. The 15 global finalists will receive an all-expenses paid trip to compete for the ultimate prize—the American Crew All-Star Challenge Grand Champion. Finalists also win a shoot with internationally renowned photographer David Roemer, top model selection, and professional wardrobe and grooming, the opportunity to compete for the global title and international respect in men’s hairstyling.

Find all the entry details and requirements on americancrew.com/allstarchallenge, and submit your entry by September 30.

A team of men’s styling, fashion and editorial experts, including American Crew’s Craig Hanson, GQ magazine’s Peter St. John, AskMen.com’s fashion and grooming editor Sachin Bhola, and Sergio Garcia from the Men’s Division of LA Models, will select the three U.S. finalists, with the U.S. winner announced on November 3 during Opening Night. Opening Night will also showcase a men’s runway show, the debut of the 2014 American Crew Collection and a can’t-miss after party. To purchase tickets, visit americancrew.com/openingnight.

The Invisible Work of a Rebrand

In this rare essay, the president of a haircare brand takes us behind-the-scenes into a world we never see when we pick up a product off the shelves--the arduous, thought-probing, second-guessing journey of rebranding a legacy product line. Not only is her reflection fascinating, but it is also incredibly useful for any salon owner or manufacturer contemplating their own brand.
