City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, proudly unveiled the Farouk Shami Positive Image Center, a tribute to the generosity and dedication of Dr. Farouk Shami, chairman and founder of Farouk Systems, Inc. The highly anticipated event took place at City of Hope in Duarte, CA.
Dr. Farouk Shami, a renowned philanthropist and influential figure in the beauty industry, has been a steadfast supporter of City of Hope. In 2023, leaders from the National Beauty Industry (NBI) gathered to celebrate Dr. Shami as the Spirit of Life honoree at City of Hope's Spirit of Life Celebration. The Spirit of Life Award is given to individuals in business, entertainment, science and philanthropy who help bring about change that improves the lives of others. It is the highest honor awarded by City of Hope. Through his tireless fundraising efforts, he has helped raise over $1 million and donated CHI Power Plus products to City of Hope. In recognition of his invaluable contributions, the Farouk Shami Positive Image Center has been named in his honor.
Upon arrival to the unveiling ceremony, Dr. Shami was warmly greeted by City of Hope members holding signs that read "Thank You, Dr. Shami" and “We love the CHI man,” expressing their heartfelt gratitude for his unwavering support. The emotional reception set a touching tone for the day's events.
Adding to this, City of Hope also surprised Dr. Shami with two other locations where his name will be proudly displayed, one including the beauty garden where his name sits near his longtime beauty industry business partner, philanthropist, and late friend John McCall.
Following the unveiling, a celebratory luncheon was held at City of Hope’s Visitor Center. Dr. Shami shared his thoughts and gratitude:
"It’s a great honor," Dr. Shami remarked. "We will continue to support City of Hope. We share a [common mission]: to serve humanity. That’s where we meet; you provide the care, and we bring the beauty. Together, we will cure the world.”
The Farouk Shami Positive Image Center will offer essential services and CHI Power Plus products to promote hair growth following chemotherapy treatment. The center aims to help patients maintain a positive self-image during and after treatment by providing beauty and wellness consultations.
"We are deeply grateful for Dr. Shami’s support and are honored to name the Positive Image Center after him," said Kris Davidson, associate vice president of individual giving at City of Hope. "His contributions have made a profound impact on the lives of those we serve."
The event marked a significant milestone for Farouk Systems, Inc., and it underscored the enduring impact of philanthropy in advancing cancer research and patient care. The Farouk Shami Positive Image Center stands as a testament to what can be achieved through generosity and compassion, inspiring hope, and resilience in all who enter its doors.
