Tyler Mason’s biggest philanthropic partnership is Flashes of Hope which provides free family portraits to the families of terminally ill children. Since 2009, the salon has helped raise funds as well as donated stylists to style hair and do makeup before the portraits.

The salon also hosts Princess for a Day, an event where little girls are treated to hair, makeup and nail services, visits with princess-costumed volunteers, crafts and activities, face painting, magic and balloon animals, princess story times, dancing, singing and snacks. The salon charges an entry fee and holds a silent auction and raffle, with all proceeds donated to Flashes of Hope.

“This year we also offered to take over planning of the event, and we saw our attendance numbers double and exceeded our total profit goal of $2,500 by $300 dollars,” Baker says. “We do this event because we care about Flashes of Hope, but we always receive recognition. The event usually receives at least one media hit and this year, we had two.”
