David Guerin, Global Artistic Director for Oster Professional and owner of The Cutting Room, in Albany, Oregon, along with his daughter Shannon Guerin Van Deusen, recently joined forces with Hairdressers on a Mission. Along with other participating stylists and volunteers, David traveled 180 miles south of the border into Baja, Mexico. Participants donated time and effort everywhere they went, starting with handicapped children at Gabriel House orphanage, in Ensenada, Mexico, who were plagued with lice. The children were given hair cuts, cleaned, sanitized and taught about hair care.

The next stop was Cannon Instituto, a beauty school run by a single mother and children. The team performed a total makeover on the building and taught lessons to students. Once the plumbing was finished, this became the first beauty school in the area with hot and cold running water that drains into a sewer system. Oster Professional, L'Oréal Professionnel and Scruples Hair Care generously donated much-needed supplies to the efforts.

For the next four and a half days, the school was packed with students and certified hairdressers from the area. No one was turned away from the teaching of the Hairdressers on a Mission. Guerin says, "Together we can really make a difference in the lives we will come in contact with."
