The three-story building that houses Ottalaus Salon showcases its contemporary design with deep black framework surrounding white brick. It sits at the base of a hill, where a breathtaking view of the Rocky Mountains and the Utah Valley greet every guest. At sunset, the roof is underlit and the lighting from the interior turns the building into a focal point for the entire street.
Double glass doors lead into a sumptuous reception area with a modern six-foot wide desk made of white marble that has been inlaid with crushed glass that glitters in the light. Crystal chandeliers hang from above and cast a warmth over the space.
“Every color within the salon was carefully selected to be aesthetically pleasing, as well as mood evoking,” says Owner AnneMarie Krainich. “While white is the main theme, the blues, grays and black offer the perfect amount of contrast. A single wall behind the reception desk is solid black showcasing the silver and blue metal of the three-foot logo hanging at its center.”
Receptionists offer incoming guests a beverage before directing them to the waiting area that hosts two white leather chairs sitting on a soft rug over black flooring. Retail cases with underlit shelves flank the reception area, inviting guests to shop.
When guests walk around the reception desk, they find an open floor plan where bright blue and chrome salon chairs contrast beautifully against the white walls and black flooring. Tall backlit chrome mirrors divide each stylist’s space, and each station has its own black down-light hanging from the white industrial ceiling. Chrome lights, that contain both up and down lighting, run above the aisleways for a stunning effect. Three walls of nearly floor-to-ceiling windows add a balance of natural light increasing the open feel of the space.
“The reverse side of the reception wall has been turned into a photo wall featuring oversized hand-painted blue poppies surrounding the Ottalaus logo,” adds Krainich. “Our tag line, ‘Real Beauty is Fearless,’ is painted at the left creating the perfect background for client selfies. The strategic lighting, including an in-house photobooth light, creates the perfect stage, which encourages social media sharing.”
As clients pass by the styling stations, a massive cylinder draws the eye with blue wallpaper accents. Attached to the cylinder are top-of-the-line processing dryers. A circular crystal chandelier hangs above a glass table with a white oval pedestal. Chairs in the same blue as the styling chairs sit around the table, creating a space where guests can relax, read or chat.
To the right of the processing area is a white marble color bar. The counter is a waterfall design with white drawers and cabinets beneath. Above are cupboards—the side not facing clients holds the color, while the space facing the clients has open shelves that feature product displays.
To the left of the processing area is the shampoo section, where anchored crushed glass panels appear to hang from the ceiling by chrome chainwork. White leather shampoo chairs fully recline, providing air massage while the client receives their wash or treatment at a comfortable oversized bowl.
The hallway beyond leads to the private service rooms. The back walls of each room are covered with black and gray floral wallpaper with a hint of glitter to reflect the light. High-quality tables are swathed with soft blankets creating an inviting, cozy space.
