When Lei Cicero, owner of Salon Midori, opened her second salon in Yorba Linda, CA, she knew she had to make it unique to stand out and attract top talent in her area, so she installed the Freestylist Support System.

“I focus on the ergonomic benefits when I meet with new talent.  As stylists, we already spend long hours on our feet, so the Freestylist helps ease back, neck and arm strain from the weight of a blow dryer.  Plus, it’s one less cord we have to untangle which has helped save much needed time in today’s pandemic.  Since we can only take one client at a time, any extra time is spent on sanitation, so we need to make every minute count,” explains Cicero.

The Freestylist is a constant counterbalancing mechanism designed to support hair dryers’ weight while in use, rendering it weightless.  It was invented to help stylists avoid and alleviate carpal tunnel, as well as shoulder and arm problems associated with holding the weight of the dryer.

Typically, stylists look for lightweight dryers to seek relief from the stress and strain of blow drying, but they are made with DC motors, which have an average life expectancy of 400-500 hours, whereas heavier dryers have AC motors which last more than twice as long, 12000 hours.  So, the advantage of the Freestylist is, stylists can choose a professional dryer based on the heat, power, noise level, ergonomics, motor and reliability, rather than on weight.

“We specialize in hair extensions, balayage and Brazilian Blowouts.  The Brazilian Blowouts in particular benefit from having the Freestylist because the service requires multiple drying sessions, as well as having to dry and flat iron small sections at a time.  It’s time consuming having to stop and rotate your client to grab your dryer for each section and then put it back or try to hold the dryer inbetween your legs to save time… which can lead to an occasional crash to the floor.  That’s when the Freestylist comes in for the win, you just glide it back up and its waiting patiently for you when you need it again!” adds Cicero.
