One of the most challenging tasks of pulling together the SALON TODAY 200 issue is designing its cover. Each year, after all the applications have been judged and the honorees have been selected, we begin looking over the images of owners that were submitted and beginning putting them together—somewhat like a jigsaw puzzle.

First, we’re looking for professional quality images that are high- resolution that will look sharp and clear on the cover. Next, we’re searching for body positions that work well together and make a nice composite image. Finally, I’m checking to see that we’re showing some nice diversity on the cover, with a nice balance of owners representing different kinds of salons and who captured honors in different SALON TODAY 200 categories.
