Seventeen Aveda Arts & Sciences Institutes have fully transitioned their beauty education classes to remote learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since moving to distance learning, the institutes report a hearty 92% student participation rate across the nine-state network of institutes that include Minnesota, New York, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Texas.

“We moved swiftly in order to provide continuity of education and keep our students present and engaged,” said Kalli Blackwell Peterman, general manager of Aveda Arts and Sciences Institutes. “After ensuring student safety, focusing on their education was the most important factor to address. We sent our students home with the equipment and tools needed to ensure that their coursework would not be compromised by the quarantines across our network of schools.”

Educators in all disciplines including cosmetology, esthiology, and massage have quickly redesigned their teaching styles to maintain the integrity of the world class Aveda curriculum. By using video calls to simulate the classroom experience, screen shares, and mannequin heads and supply kits sent to students’ homes, courses have hardly skipped a beat.

“Crisis doesn't create character, it reveals it.,” said Jenn Montelongo, Director of the Aveda Arts and Sciences Institute of San Antonio. “We are still able to provide the best education to our students and have them on track for on-time graduation all while still keeping most of our team employed. There is no other company I would want to work for in such a difficult time!"
