Recent water saving

In a recent study, 70% of beauty professionals are concerned about water depletion, while 76% were concerned about how salon color and chemical waste contaminate water.

Beauty professionals keen to balance the care they give clients with the care they show the planet are partnering with key brands to reduce contamination while saving millions of gallons of water.

As America celebrates National Water Quality Month this August, major players focused on sustainability have released stats that show more than half a million gallons of water used for laundry have been saved by salons using Scrummi disposable towels, while ECOHEADS showerheads have helped salons save nearly 800 million gallons of water to date.

“The average American uses approximately 80 gallons of water or more per day for bathing, cleaning, household waste, cooking, drinking water and on their yard, according to the US Environment Protection Agency” says Valorie Tate, from Sustain Beauty Co. “Yet it’s a fraction of what a beauty professional uses every day to deliver quality services to their clients, and we know from our latest research released last month this worries most of them. More than 70% were concerned about the depletion of water.”

Contamination is also causing anxiety, with the amount of color and chemicals being rinsed down salon basins a priority concern. 76% of the respondents in the latest research from Sustain Beauty Co rated waste, including color and chemical waste, as the most urgent issue the industry must address. Which is why interest in color-saving technology like The Ping color mixer from ECOHEADS has surged, also delivering key benefits like speed, consistency and cost savings. Stats show that introducing The Ping color mixer to the color bar can cut color waste by as much as 20%, massively reducing the amount of color-contaminated water being rinsed away.

“The conversation about sustainability has matured in recent years. The debate isn’t just about the planet; it’s about conserving and distributing resources in a way that offers prosperity to all,” adds Valorie. “The Ping mixes color so that less is needed to get a perfect coverage, which means savings for the business and the planet. But the consistency of the mix is unrivalled, which makes application quicker, helping the bottom line of any color business.”

A similar argument centers on Scrummi, which offers a stress-free alternative to laundry, while freeing up space and time that can be diverted to more profitable tasks. One business saved over eight hours a week in housekeeping services, consistent with the average cost savings of almost 40% in comparison to the gruelling task of laundry. Similarly, ECOHEADS with its pressure-boosting spray nozzle, speeds up rinsing, giving the stylist more face-to-face time with clients.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) backed by the United Nations, first declared August National Water Quality Month in 2005, to not only promote the conservation of natural water sources, but to ensure that clean and safe drinking water is available for everyone.
