AI is changing the way businesses operate, but in the beauty and wellness industry, one thing remains true: the human touch is irreplaceable.
New insight shows consumers are actively shifting toward 'skinimalism,' simper rountines built around fewer, harder-working ingredients. The one ingredient leading that shift? Peptides.

Rather than adding more skincare steps, many consumers are focusing on doing the essentials well, says Consultant Dermatologist Alan Friedmann.
As “skinimalism” continues to shape modern beauty routines, new UK search data analyzed by Tursian reveals growing interest in multifunctional ingredients like peptides, reflecting a shift toward simplified, more considered skincare.
Minimalism in skincare isn’t about neglect. It’s about clarity.
After years of multi-step routines layered with exfoliating acids, retinoids and targeted treatments, many consumers are reconsidering how complex their routines need to be.
The Value of Simplified Regimes
Consultant Dermatologist Dr. Adam Friedmann says simplified routines can be highly beneficial.
“Simplified skin regimes are very useful. Sunscreen with a high SPF is vital for protecting from UV damage, which causes most of the photoaging effects on skin. Moisturizing regularly helps too.”
While ingredient experimentation has grown in popularity over the past decade, dermatologists consistently emphasize foundational care: daily UV protection and barrier-supportive hydration.
Rather than adding more steps, many consumers are focusing on doing the essentials well.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as signaling molecules within the skin. Certain peptides are designed to support collagen and elastin production or help calm inflammation.
“There is no doubt that certain peptide applications will have a scientific basis for being effective,” Dr. Friedmann explains. “These peptides can improve collagen and elastin, they can calm inflammation and even target hyperpigmentation in some cases.”
However, he adds important context: “There are many hundreds of peptides available and an evidence basis would be required for each one of these in order to confirm efficacy.”
This means that while peptides may offer benefits, outcomes depend on the specific molecule used and the supporting research behind it.
Clinical Performance and Formulation
Peptide-based formulations are often positioned as multifunctional, supporting hydration, structural resilience, and barrier reinforcement within a single product.
Tursian’s P-3 Ultimate Hydration Serum Concentrate combines multiple peptides with additional barrier-supporting technologies. In a third-party, 28-day clinical study involving 21 volunteers (aged 19–59):
Skin hydration increased by 248% within 15 minutes
Hydration remained elevated by 134% after 28 days
Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL) was reduced by 33% in 15 minutes
A sustained 22% TEWL reduction was maintained after 28 days

"Skinminalism doesn't mean abandoning science. It means prioritizing what truly delivers," says Riyadh Swedaan, founder of Tursian.
“Hydration isn’t just about surface water,” says Riyadh Swedaan, founder of Tursian. “It’s about supporting barrier function so that moisture is retained more effectively over time.”
“Skinimalism doesn’t mean abandoning science," he continues. "It means prioritizing what truly delivers. Strong formulation architecture allows you to reduce routine length without reducing performance.”
Dermatologists agree that consistency plays a crucial role in outcomes.
A routine someone can maintain comfortably over months is often more beneficial than a complex regimen that becomes difficult to sustain.
While sunscreen and moisturisation remain foundational pillars of skin health, targeted ingredients such as peptides may complement simplified routines, provided there is appropriate scientific support behind the specific compound used.
As consumer awareness evolves, the conversation appears to be shifting toward intelligent minimalism: fewer products, stronger evidence, and sustainable long-term care.
