There were classes and discussions about Instagram everywhere at America’s Beauty Show in Chicago this year, but one of the best we attended was a class called “Instafamous” by Instagram star Daniel Mason-Jones. And as you can guess, he went over everything you need to do to become a famous Instagram star!
“There’s so much information and it’s changing at a record pace,” says Mason-Jones. “Instagram for me has been an absolute game-changer, and it isn’t going away soon. Don’t disregard Facebook though, in the next three to five years it will become another e-commerce platform just like Amazon. E-mail is also going to be going away in the near future. People will start using Messenger and Chat Bots to respond and answer people’s questions.”
For Mason-Jones it’s all about engagement. "Followers are important but it's how people react to your page that's more important," he says. According to Mason-Jones, lots of his ideas came from sitting down with the people who create the algorithms for Facebook and Instagram. Our ears perked up when we heard that!
Tips for Instagram:
If you have less than 10,000 followers make sure your Facebook Lives are between 10 and 15 minutes. The more followers you have, the longer the video length.
If you’re posting, keep it professional and cohesive.
Pick a posting schedule and stick to it!
Make sure your Bio describes you, your place of business and it provides your contact info.
You should be posting up to two times per day. Don’t post any more than that or you’re going to be considered spam!
You should be doing 5 to 7 Instagram Stories per day - 15 seconds a piece.
Subconsciously your page is already telling a story about you. When you are doing these 15 second Instagram Story snips it’s an opportunity for people to see into your life. People will buy you if you sell you.
Your Instagram page should be your own digital magazine, make it your portfolio. Facebook is going to be your community. You’ll find that you have relationships with these clients outside of hair.
If you post seven posts, five of them should be professional and the other two should be lifestyle. People want to see who you are and learn about your personality.
If you’re doing a before and after, make sure you’re doing it against the same wall. If you don’t, you’ll take the focus point off the hair, and it will lose some of the ‘wow’ factor.
Use 30 hashtags with every post. However, do not use the same hashtags three times in a row or you will get shadow banned!
If you have to question yourself if something is right to post or not, you probably shouldn’t post it.
