Celebrity Stylist Candy Shaw, the owner of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers in Atlanta, GA, and the founder of Sunlights Balayage, was named 'Maverick of the Year' at the 13th annual Stevie Awards honoring Women in Business at a recent ceremony in New York's Times Square.

Celebrity stylist Candy Shaw, the founder of SUNLIGHTS Balayage, Inc., the makers and purveyors of the world’s leading balayage products, was named ‘Maverick of the Year’ at the 13th annual Stevie Awards® honoring ‘Women in Business’ at a recent ceremony in New York’s Time Square attended by over 500 people.
Lang Sias, a former U.S. Navy Fighter Pilot and TOPGUN Instructor said this about Candy, “I’ve flown with plenty of fighter pilots and I can say that my good friend Candy is a true ‘Maverick’ in every sense of the word! As long as I’ve known Candy, she’s been breaking down barriers and shattering glass ceilings on behalf of women in business everywhere. I’d gladly go into business combat with Candy--she can be my ‘wingman’ anytime! Congratulations on being named ‘Maverick of the Year’.”
The Stevie Awards for Women in Business are the world’s top honor for female entrepreneurs, executives and the companies they run. This year’s competitions involved more than 10,000 nominees from more than sixty countries. The selections were made by an esteemed panel of 150 judges from around the world. “We are thrilled and humbled to be able to recognize so many outstanding women..., and to share their stories of achievement with the world!” said Michael Gallagher, Stevie Awards® President.
A ‘Maverick’ and entrepreneur her entire life, Candy never went to college or beauty school. Severely dyslexic, she graduated high school by trading haircuts for math homework. Never one to follow conventional rules, Candy has gone on to become one of the most successful and well-respected hair stylists in the world. Nicknamed ‘The Balay Lama®’ she is widely regarded as the world’s foremost authority on balayage education.
“I accept this Award on behalf of the entire SUNLIGHTS nation,” said Candy. “Without their help none of this would have been possible. My rallying cry for women and girls everywhere is this: Believe in yourself and your dreams because dreams really DO come true. Be proud to be a woman in business. We work harder than most, sometimes with little appreciation for our accomplishments. I’m overwhelmed to win this amazing award and share it with all the women in our industry!”
