KEVIN.MURPHY Strengthens New England Presence Through New Partnership with Sullivan Beauty
Bringing global haircare authority closer to the chair, the partnership marks a renewed investment in New England's salons and stylists.
Guy Tang is offering all stylists a way to express themselves in their color work and to take pride in their identity.

Growing up, Guy Tang says he struggled with finding his identity but when he found hair, he found his purpose. In the past few years, Tang has been changing the world of color and inspiring his tribe of #hairbesties with beautifully creative color finishes. Now, with the launch of his #mydentity hair color collection, 24 pre-blended shades including permanent, demi, direct dye and dual booster colors, he is offering all stylists a way to express themselves in their color work and to take pride in their identity.
The shades include the trending dusty lavender and rose gold. The formulas feature heat protection up to 450 degrees and a blend of Keratin and Argan Seed Oil to improve the overall integrity of hair while supporting color retention and vibrancy. And as all his besties know, Tang loves the calming scent of lavender so included that fragrance profile in his products.
In the midst of rolling out his new collection across the country, Tang answered a few questions about the how and why of this exciting debut.
MS: When did you first start thinking you wanted to introduce a product range and how long has this been in process?
GT: I have been thinking about creating #mydentity for half a decade now and it was almost two years in the making. I wanted to achieve colors that are unique, that utilize advanced technology and that are easy-to-use for my #Hairbesties to enjoy.
MS: What holes did you see in other color lines that you wanted to fill?
GT: In the past, I have used and have experience working with a lot of different color lines. I created looks that were so popular, but required at least six color formulas and several steps to achieve the final look. So I decided to create wearable, fashionable colors that are trendy, yet timeless, and that will be specially pre-blended using my recipe.
MS: How did you formulate the colors?
GT: I custom-created the shades myself along with several chemists that know the molecular structures of different colors. It took almost two years to create #mydentity because we had to test it several times until we came up with the shades we have today.
MS: What is the biggest challenge for colorists today?
GT: With Social Media today, most clients demand hair color that is trendy, hip, lit and they want it now! I wanted to empower and satisfy the hairstylists by creating #Mydentity colors and help them to expand their creativeness.
