“I love how Wella gives you an opportunity to enter in a huge competition and express your own vision! I loved the Celeste trend, as I was really into pastels and platinum blondes at the time,” says Deuel. “The trend just called out to me and I had the perfect friend/model that was interested in letting me do whatever I wanted to her hair.”
Deuel took the opportunity and spent a lot of her free time working on her final look. “I can’t wait to see the actual show itself and the upcoming trends for next year! I have never been out of the country so I can’t wait to see the different cultures come and compete for the title,” she says. “It’s amazing how many looks you can create from one description. I will definitely be staying an extra couple of days to sight see and spend time with my team to explore Madrid!”
Not only has this accolade brought her very new career to a fast rise within our industry, she has enjoyed much media recognition locally. The ultimate, however, was being featured on The Debra Kennedy Show, a local television broadcast that highlights what's new in trends, fashion and the "new comers" to the scene of art, fashion and beauty in the greater Charlotte, North Carolina, metro area.
One of Kelsey's favorite quotes is from Thomas A Edison: "You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” Always willing to take a risk and seeking newer and better ways to do things, this young artist is always ready to take on the next new challenge. Deuel says in five years from now she hopes to see herself traveling, teaching, doing hair for Fashion Week and continuing doing hair for her clients and possibly celebrities. Winning the Wella Trend Vision Young Talent-USA, 2012, competition was just the catalyst needed to support greater and bigger challenges for her in the future. We wish you luck Kelsey!
