The Change Agent

Listen in to my podcast with Patricia Owen, owner of Hilton Head's Faces DaySpa, as she shares her journey from her local Chamber of Commerce to her seat on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

For more than a decade I enjoyed watching Patricia Owen, owner of Faces DaySpa in Hilton Head, South Carolina, grow her business. I've tapped her business savvy for features on building spa profitability, retailing and developing a an emergency preparedness plan—in her case, the threat was hurricanes. And, I've even had the pleasure of being a client in her spa—best reflexology foot massage I've ever had!

Over the years though, I've also been fascinated with her gradual growth into politics, from becoming active in her local Chamber of Commerce to now serving on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Last year, I touched base with Patricia after she had the chance to enlighten members of the U.S. Congress on the interests of small business owners and meet with President Barack Obama. With her current position on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, she's also become a consultant to the Professional Beauty Association's ongoing government affairs efforts, in the areas of small business, and shared the interests of the professional beauty industry with the Chamber of Commerce.

I always love stories about what one determined person can accomplish, so I invited Patricia to do a podcast with SALON TODAY, asking her to share her story about how she got involved, some of her accomplishments, her view on the current economy and her advice for other owners who'd also like to get more politically active.
