One of the most challenging tasks of pulling together the SALON TODAY 200 issue is designing its cover. Each year, after all the applications have been judged and the honorees have been selected, we begin looking over the images of owners that were submitted and beginning putting them together—somewhat like a jigsaw puzzle.

First, we’re looking for professional quality images that are high- resolution that will look sharp and clear on the cover. Next, we’re searching for body positions that work well together and make a nice composite image. Finally, I’m checking to see that we’re showing some nice diversity on the cover, with a nice balance of owners representing different kinds of salons and who captured honors in different SALON TODAY 200 categories.

Allow me to introduce you to this year’s cover owners….

Angela Watne Janssen and Suzanne Phelps are the proud owners of Stem Hair and Body Salon in Merriam, Kansas, who earned a position in the Growth category with a growth rate of 32% in sales between 2011 and 2012.

Bill Lavender and Bradley Wood own Adora Salon in Oceanside, California. They earned their spot in the 2014 SALON TODAY 200 by grabbing an honor in the Retail and Merchandising category.

Clay and Tiffany Friedman own N Style Salon in Saugus, California, where they captured ST200 honors in the Environmental Sustainability category.

And, Wendy White McCown is the owner of Signatures Salon in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She captured an honor this year in Planned Profitability.
