Hairbrained.me is an online hairdresser community founded by Gerard Scarpaci and Randy Taylor. Among the communication, education, and inspiration exchanged on the site, are more than 3,000 videos that have being posted by members from around the world.

Scarpaci and Taylor, impressed by the caliber of the videos on the site, have decided to acknowledge the artists who created them. In January 2014, Hairbrained.me will debut a unique online event—The Hairbrained Video Awards (HVA)—to honor those who capture and share the art and craft of hairdressing.

“Video is such a powerful and fulfilling medium both technically and creatively.” says Taylor, “We want to support those who are using it to teach and inspire their fellow hairdressers. We believe that the pioneers who are independently creating this content will be among the future leaders of our craft.”

Nominees for the Hairbrained Video Awards will be selected from among all the videos that were uploaded to the site in 2013. Nominees will be announced in early January 2014 and winners will be announced later in the month, via webcast. Winners will receive Incubator Grants up to $5,000 from Hairbrained.me and its sponsors.

“We want to make the HVA’s easily accessible so there is no formal entry process other than to create great videos and post them on Hairbrained.me’s community platform,” says Scarpaci. “Nominees will be chosen in multiple categories and the judges, consisting of an elite panel of artists, will make the final choice of winners.” For more information, visit hairbrained.me.
