To kickstart its new Matrix Inspiration Salon program, Matrix searched for a salon with a talented team, a fabulous location and a passion and desire to imagine. The program brings a completely branded element to the salon along with professional and business support. Salon Mayan, owned by Ben Aharon in Huntington Village, New York, was chosen as the programs flagship salon.

Today, Salon Mayans black-and-white front desk welcomes clients and sets the tone for the spirited decor. After receptionists offer tours of the new space, they encourage clients to explore the salons two retail spaces that flank the front desk. Designed by Peter Millard and Matrix, the retail space guides the clients’ eves with eight-foot branded imagery; feature/benefit shelf edge strips and promotional displays.

Throughout the salon, red and white furnishings continue the upbeat vibe, and whimsical light fixtures soften the space.

The styling area is as clutter-free as possible. Stations were designed without shelves; drawers hidden behind the mirrors store all tools and brushes. Styling products are housed on a centralized styling shelf, which offers easy access while keeping products off the stations.

The color bar, also designed by Peter Millard and Matrix, is the centerpiece of the Inspiration Salon concept and serves as the focal point for color conversations and consultations between stylists and clients. A bar area directly across from the color bar serves as a comfortable place for clients while their color processes.

According to Gail Cohen, Matrix’s vice president of business development, Salon Mayan is the first of many Inspiration Salons throughout the country.

“Were looking for salons that truly want to partner with us, and demonstrate their commitment by embracing our full product portfolio and Matrix culture,” Cohen says.
