Clients visiting New Reflections Salon in Minnetonka, Minnesota, for the first time are encouraged to look up. Spanning the 28-foot ceiling, ‘Swirling Tresses,’ a lit sculpture of tousled curls of aluminum with copper highlights represents the collaboration of sculptor John Currie and the salon’s team. “It is definitely the salon’s focal point and conversation starter, and lends a museum feel to the space,” says Owner Diane Keller.
The salon, which lives within a regional mall, is positioned right outside of Macy’s cosmetic department. Wanting to emphasize that the salon is both innovative and interactive, Keller designed a hair play station in the salon’s window, where stylists and do demos to encourage interest and educate guests. An iPad table, a replica of what one would see in an Apple store, serves as a check in and out station while educating and entertaining guests, as well as supporting the consultation process.
