1. List your three favorite features of your salon/spa design and explain why.
"Our beautiful entrance to the salon with a unique shell covered wall featuring our logo, along with greeting stations," says Weiss. "Check out area is separate. Private dim lighted shampoo area with spa music playing and lounge style seating. Main areas of the salon exude a very open airy feeling with high ceilings and LED lighting throughout to mimic daylight inside the salon, along with incandescent lighting which creates a warm and inviting atmosphere."
2. What was the biggest challenge about this salon or spa design, and how did you overcome it?
"The biggest challenge for me was to create a perfect flow throughout the salon. I overcame this after having built several salons in my career. I realized how much space was needed for each department, including equipment and furniture for the salon. I went as far as creating templates on the floor to make sure the measurements fit perfect for each piece of furniture being built. I found that to be very helpful in my designing as the work was being done."
3. Who is your target market and how did you design this salon to attract that market?
"We are located on the border of two higher income cities and found that to be a perfect fit for our business and clientele. We had to build a salon that would exceed everyone's expectations. I feel that we did just that. There is no salon in our area like ours."
4. Which specific elements of your salon design were planned to enhance productivity and profitability?
"We have two greeting desks as you enter the salon, which allow our front desk personnel to give proper attention to the guest checking in. They are able to get them prepared for their appointment in a timely manner which we feel adds a touch of personal treatment when they arrive. We have built our check out area near the retail department so guests can easily purchase products on their way out after their appointments. We display specials at our color processing area so guests can see what we are offering at the time while they are sitting and processing their color."
