3rd Runner-Up: Cloud 10 Blow Dry Bar and Hair Salon

In Delray Beach, Florida, busy female professionals recently found a new place to get gorgeous in an 60 minutes or less with the Cloud 10 Blow Dry and Hair Salon. Owner Jodi Dery designed the space as a luxurious place for relaxing, indulging oneself and socializing.

Although the location boasted a generous 1700 square feet, the original space was challenged because it was wide and shallow, making for a tricky layout. Dery brought in Architect George Brewer, whose unique approach to space planning resulted in Cloud 10’s innovate and highly functional layout. To make the space work, makeup stations were placed on the back wall perpendicular to the styling stations with plenty of room in between. The reception and waiting areas were specifically designed to showcase retail products such as affordable, stylish jewelry, as well as makeup and haircare products. Three separate retail areas ensure that the clients’ attention is captured throughout the service.

For the design of the space, Dery went with clean, simple, and elegant with a white on white look. “Many of the fixtures are from Italy,” says Dery. “I saw them in a design magazine, and although in the pages they were shown in green, I could envision them all in white. Our guests love the whole look of the salon, and often tell us that the pictures of the space don’t do it justice.”

Leveraging the latest technology heightens the guest experience. Four shampoo chairs with built-in Shiatsu massage help stylists provide the perfect start to the service during an eight-minute shampoo service. Clients have access to WiFi, stations are equipped with chargers for every type of cell phone, and flat-screen TVs play fun movies and shows with captions to keep sound to a minimum. To further delight guests, iPads at each station are loaded with fashion and makeup videos, as well as the salon’s own private App, which houses the current digital editions of nine beauty and fashion magazines, the salon’s detailed menu offerings, and a “Take My Picture” function.

“We’re located in the downtown area, and we hot several wedding parties, bachelorette parties and pretty princess parties,” Dery says. “The Take My Picture function in a fun little detail—like a photo booth, it encourages the client to take four different shots of their new style, then they can share it through their social media sites or hit a button and the photos print at the front desk.”

To date, the concept seems to be paying off. Dery recently responded to client demand and expanded the dry bar menu’s offerings by incorporating cutting and coloring services.
