When the news broke that the legendary Vidal Sassoon passed away, Christina Gengaro, owner of the Style Lounge Hair Studio in Toms River, New Jersey, knew she wanted to do something special to commemorate his life. She soon decided the best way to honor his style and vision was to host a '60s theme day at the salon to educated her clients about his importance to the industry and helped her staff remember.
"Of course, you won't hear any of us complaining about playing dress up, but it truly got us in the Sassoon spirit!" Gengaro says. "When our clients walked in, they weren't sure if they entered a time warp, but they enjoyed their services as we educated them on Sassoon's life and career. Some of the clients even caught Sassoon fever and allowed us to create lines they have never had before."
Throughout the salon, the staff hung iconic photos of Sassoon and his work on every mirror, and staff donned wigs, head scarves and mini-skirts. They even served cupcakes decorated his initials.
"It's imperative for our guests to be knowledgeable of our respect for our profession and industry!" says Gengaro. "We loved sharing our passion for our education and love for the legendary Vidal Sassoon, who plays a huge role evolving us to better our craft everyday!"
