Angus Mitchell and his Angus Mitchell Salon Beverly Hills staff recently held a special ‘Tornado Relief Cut-A-Thon’ to help the American Red Cross raise money for the victims of the Joplin, Missouri tornado disaster. The EF-4 tornado took the lives of more than 116 people, leaving hundreds more homeless. With almost $10, 000 raised in this one day event, all proceeds have been donated to the American Red Cross’ relief efforts in Joplin. An estimated $3 billion will be needed to rebuild the city of Joplin, while a full recovery will take several years.

A number of celebrities stopped by to share their support. Actress Kelly Hu of “Hawaii Five-0”, the James Bond movies, “The Wolverine,” “X-2,” “X-Men United” and the upcoming “X-Men” sequel—personally had her hair cut by Mitchell. Up and coming actor Brandon Tyler Russell, who stars in the new film “Smitty” and teen star Brendon Eggersten of “Just Go With It” were also there for haircuts with Mitchell to help the cause.

The Mayor of the City of Beverly Hills also proclaimed it ‘Angus Mitchell Day’ in honor of all the charitable and community work Angus Mitchell and the Angus Mitchell Salon Beverly Hills gave to their community.

“We have all been moved by the heartbreaking images and stories coming out of Joplin," says Mitchell. "This disaster particularly hit close to home for us as a member of our salon team had his family’s home destroyed by the Missouri tornado. This special event really was a great way for us to help make a difference in the lives of those in need! Our Tornado Relief Cut-A-Thon will hopefully set a precedent to inspire other salon professionals, to use their creative talents and to help others in the world. Our Tornado Relief Cut-A-Thon was worth every minute of everyone's hard work and time. We appreciated everyone who came out to help us make a difference in the lives of those in need. As a salon, we are blessed to have a team that gave up their personal time for a chance to give back by living life selflessly not selfishly!”

Clients were also able to place bids on a diverse range of donated Silent Auction offerings such as a seven-day Caribbean Vacation, diamond jewelry, fashion accessories, original artwork, a Simmons Comforpedic Mattress and front row seats to the “So You Think You Can Dance” TV show. Some of the other silent auction contributors included The Peninsula Hotel, Swarovski Jewelry, Magashoni Cashmere, Elite Island Resorts and Robert Graham. The Hawaiian based Waialua Soda company donated all the soft drink refreshments as a way to also celebrate Angus’ Hawaiian roots—something that remains very important to him.
