Whether you’re renovating your existing salon or spa space or opening a new beauty establishment in 2021, shopping for furniture and equipment is both exciting and challenging. Your choices will influence not only the appearance of your business, but also impact its brand, for the next several years.
To help guide owners and managers through this process, SALON TODAY introduces its 2021 Inspiration Guide, which will introduce you to a few furniture and equipment manufacturers every few months, show you some of their latest product releases and offer you tips on how to make the best design decisions.
Shopping Tip: “When considering cabinetry for your shop, it’s vital that you not only understand what type of material was used in the construction of the station desired, but also where the stations were actually constructed,” says Richard Eichholz, president of Gamma and Bross. “This source information will give you invaluable insight into the quality of the product, that of which is extremely important when considering such a high-value purchase. Styling stations that are made in the USA are going to be exponentially higher in quality than those sourced from locations overseas. Higher quality means product longevity, and product longevity means more revenue flowing to your bottom line.”Shopping
Shopping Tip: “When shopping for styling stations, ensure the style is compatible with the interior design of the salon and the type of clientele,” says Leon Alexander, founder of Eurisko Design. “Additionally, choose a station that is both esthetically pleasing and functional along with durable materials. The station should have ample storage and tool holders, and LED lighting should be an option.
Shopping Tip: “As everyone agrees, price is a very important factor to consider when purchasing furniture and equipment for your shop. Having said that, it can be very easy to lose sight of the other vital factors to consider when contemplating high-dollar furniture purchases, such as quality, warranty, style, etc,” Eichholz says. “When evaluating furniture for your shop, don’t forget to consider a product’s value while assessing its price. If you can spend a few extra dollars upfront for a more quality product with a longer live expectancy, you’ll reap the long-term benefits in the end.”
Shopping Tip: “Purchasing a color lab depends on several details including the color brand,” Alexander says. “The size of color lab should reflect the number of color operators. The material used should be color stain resistant. Storage should hold manufacturer’s larger developers. The location of the plumbing should dictate the position of the sink. Options for LED images above should also be an option.”
Shopping Tip: “Reading through previous customer reviews are one of the most important things you can do as a consumer before purchasing anything from any company. I know that I personally read multiple Google Reviews before I purchase anything on a website these days, but this is especially vital when considering high-dollar equipment & furniture in the beauty space,” says Lyle Mackenzie, director of sales for Gamma and Bross. “Make sure to read through customer reviews on Google to not only investigate the consistent ratings, but also to see how the company responds to negative reviews – that will truly tell you what type of company you’re working with.”
Shopping Tip: “When considering retail, ensure the height of each shelf is appropriate for the consumer,” Alexander says. “Ensure storage is available below the shelves. Digital images and LED lighting should attract the customer to the products. A lit domain header will make it easy to find a brand or a domain.”
