Since 2007, Help A Hero has supported the Veterans of Foreign War’s Operation Uplink “Free Call Days,” making more than 2 million calls home possible for deployed and hospitalized service members. In 2013, Sport Clips expanded Help A Hero’s focus to offer scholarships of up to $5,000 to active-duty military and veterans who are pursuing an education at post-secondary institutions, including trade schools. In January, the franchise announced that 43 scholarships had been given for the 2014 semester. Sport Clips stylists and other team members across the nation raised more than $500,000 through the company’s annual “Help A Hero” campaign, as well as received support from partners John Paul Mitchell Systems and Nioxin. Through this contribution, Sport Clips and the VFW expect to provide more than 60 additional scholarships for the fall semester. Eligible, active-duty U.S. service members and veterans can apply for the 2014 semester through April 30, 2014.
