Hair removal, especially waxing, can be one of the most profitable services in the spa. It can also be one of the most overlooked. With the help of one of the industry’s most knowledgeable hair removal experts, we’ll be answering your questions each month, covering everything from the business of hair removal to the latest techniques and trends. You send your questions and we’ll do our best to get you the answers! This month, Shala Dveirin fills you in on the latest trend in waxing.

Q. What is the latest trend in waxing?
A. With the Brazilian clearly here to stay, the latest trend making a splash is bikini art! From stencils to jewels, you can customize your client’s bikini area to be as unique as their personalities. They may want a basic heart, star or arrow to more intricate designs like butterflies or the initials of a boyfriend. And taking it to the next level are color dyes. With Valentine’s Day around the corner clients might opt for a bright pink heart or perhaps a green shamrock for the proud Irish. Is your client a brunette who has always wanted to go blond? There is no end to the choices of color out there. There are even do-it-your-self kits to send people home with. But don’t stop at shapes and color. Add some bling to that girl thing. Not only can you create a heart shape, you can bedazzle that beauty with rhinestones and Swarovski crystals.  And if you have a client who gets a full Brazilian and has no hair to shape or dye, this is a great service for them too. You can create shapes using the rhinestones or Swarovski crystals right on the bare skin.

Bikini art is a trend that is catching on fast and a great add on for your salon or spa. With designs ranging from $25 - $100, it’s a great service for the everyday client or the special occasion visitor. If you’re interested in mastering the skill of bikini art, many classes are available including Brazilian 3D from Adriel International. During the training you’ll learn three methods of performing design shapes, the basics of color application, the art of gem stone application as well as how to market all of these services.
